Has anyone found an 360 degree LED bulb that will replace the standard bulb in the 250 anchor light? I keep holding off hoping to find just a replacement LED bulb so not to change out the receptacle.

I wonder if this bulb will fit the Hella anchor light? It would be great to reduce the draw to .2AH for that light.

I have the hella lights also. I just measured all the lights and checked the type of bulbs in each area (masthead, steaming, bow r/g, and rear. I will do some research to see what is available for the Hella fixtures. I'll let you know what I find. The bulb suggested above will not fit our anchor masthead light.
Just took a close look at the Anchor light housing on JD, could not see any manufactures info, couldn't even figure out how to open it to replace the lamp if needed. We have the 2005 model WB.
Any ideas?
I'll get up on a ladder later to take another look rather than hang off the back of the boat.
Paul, look at the running lights on the bow and stern. I believe all of the lights will be the same manufacturer. On my Hella the body unscrews from the base. If the bulb looks like an automobile bulb then it is probably a Hella.
My bow and stern Hella lights use a single festoon bulb. That's making it hard to find a LED bulb with at least 180 degrees in a festoon. You could rewire - that's what I'm looking into. Part number TD 3562 10W is the BI-colored bow light from Hella. My stern light is the same with a clear lens.
Halfway up the mast, the steaming light is a festoon also. The light below is a halogen (I'm leaving that alone cause it's really bright when you need it).
All the way on top is a Hella light with the car type bulb (single bayonet) Is the single contact on the bottom a 1157 or 1156? It has a possible chance of being replaced by Dr. LED's polar white bulb if he has a single contact bulb. I have an Email into him. At $44 it is expensive!
I was hoping to find a Bi colored for the bow, but I may have to settle for a single colored cluster LED. Using a white light behind colored lenses filters most of the light out and is dimmer than using a red behind red and green behind green lens.

If it is like mine, you'll see two areas in the middle of the housing that have sort of grip lines molded into the plastic. If you squeeze those you can pull off the center section away from the mast. Pull straight toward you. There is an upper housing and a lower housing left. On the upper, you will see another sort of grip on the bottom of the upper housing. Push it in and pull the upper housing's bottom away from the part that is mounted on the mast. The lower housing has a place for a screw driver (slots) on the bottom of the lower housing around the edge of the bulb. The cover hinges down with the hinge closest to the mast.
Clear as mud? I got pictures if you have a problem!
I don't need to replace the running lights, we don't use them much but the anchor light goes 9 hours or so at night when anchored. That is a big battery drain and would be worth $50 to replace with LEDs.
I received the LED replacement bulb from Dr. LED today. It's looks quite interesting to say the least. I used a couple wires and connected it to a battery just to see what it looked like, Man... that thing is bright. I'll install it when I pull the boat in for BEER cruise prep next month.
OK, my Hella is a Series 2492 2NM All Round/Anchor Lamp and it takes a 12V/15W BA15s bulb. So far I found one place that has an LED version but it is in Australia.

Randy, Are you concerned about shipping costs from AU? I've ordered a few things from down under and generally found that shipping is fairly reasonable. That may not be the case for the LED's, but I've also found that folks from Oz will go out of their way to accomodate you. If you send them a piece of email explaining your concerns they'll probably try to find a less expensive method of shipping for you.
Just looked up the lamp for the hella anchor light. on page 580 of the WM Catalog (2007) it shows the All Round Light which looks identical to our Anchor light.
The replacement lamp is 4810602 shown on page 568 as a SC-Bay lamp that lamp is indicated to be 12w = .94amps at 12.8v (which would be 1amp at 12v) The LED's I've seen so far seem to be not far off that
Turk, I climbed the ladder this evening, my anchor light appears to be as stated above, Hella #75 (really small text on the top side of the glass) and I see no squeeze marks and no way of opening it
I misunderstood. I thought you wrote about the steaming light half way up the mast.
My anchor light is cylindrical, clear top, black base on a short aluminum pole. My clear lens just screws off from the black base (righty-tighty, lefty-lossey) About an 8th of a turn. Mine has a small black gasket that came out with it (stuck to the clear lens). If you break yours I might have some parts. I might be replacing mine with a full LED model. Not having much luck finding an LED to fit under the clear cover.
I wonder what the definition of 'visible for 2nm' really is? On a really dark night in good weather I bet you could see a dim flashlight at 2nm!
Just purchased a LED lamp for my standard heavy duty black flashlight, it replaces a standard filiment lamp, it's way brighter/whiter and runs off 6v. I also have a 1.5v LED flashlight that has amazing brightness. Perhaps I could buy a few of the flashlights, team the lamps together and make up an anchor light!
Looking at the pictures that Turk posted it appears to me that those 1156 LED bulbs on ebay should fit the Hella socket. Someone might be able to measure the diameter of the Hella bulb base and compare with the LED bulb(15mm) to be sure. So then the question will be how much room do you guys have under the lens cover on the hella?? Perhaps someone could get a measurement from the bottom of the socket to the top of the lens cover and compare it with the overall lenght of the LED bulb (56mm). Since there is no heat generated from the LED's you should be okay if its a tight fit so not melt your plastic lens. If it fits you got yourself a good deal on a LED anchor light for under $14. For that price its worth looking into.

The bulb in the link is 2.2 inches long. I believe I measured about 2 1/4 under the clear lens. It would be tight. This may be the same bulb sold for $40 on Dr. led site which proports to "may not fit hella". The Dr. LED light can be made to fit by filing off the top LED's (their instruction - not mine!) Something I would not do with a $40 bulb, but for a $7.00 bulb - I might try it. I will order one now and let you all know. The base should be OK if it is standard.
Take a look at this! Only .11 Amp and can be seen for 2NM. Isn't this the best option?? Am I missing something?? At the second link click on More Info to get to an installation guide.

I'm familiar with Davis mega light for the cabin and I understand it is not as bright as they seem to say. I don't think it is an LED. I measured my Hella fixture today and it looks like the $7.00 bulb on Ebay might fit with about a quarter inch to spare. If so, it is $43 cheaper than the davis and probably more robust. I've banged the masthead more than I care to think maneuvering it around in my pole barn. I would like to add a photocell to turn it off in the morning. That could be added to the cabin at the fuse switch I would think. Any ideas and what photocell?
