Hi all!

I just purchased and launched a '79 Catalina 25 SK with Standard Mast - but I need to buy sails (main / genoa) - can anyone recommend a source for used sails that specializes in C25's?

I'll probably have some more questions in the future - my previous boat was a Rhodes 22......nuff said.....

Thanks in advance!

Nope, I sure can't!

But, I suggest you get familiar with the measurements of your particular boat, i.e. tall/standard, etc. by looking at the tech. sections or your owner's manual. Actually, I think the Sail Warehouse lists sail sizes for the Cat 25. But since not many are SERIOUS racers, used sails from Cats seem hard to find. So, you might do what I just did today: I ordered a used sail from Pineapple Sails in California that had a luff, leach and foot measurement that was CLOSE to what I needed. It wasn't off a Catalina 25, but I am sure it will fit just fine. For cruising, this is great. Actually, I'd suggest that you check with Bacon Sails and Atlantic Sail Traders or just search under "used sails". These two big outfits on the E. Coast have tons of sails off racers like J24s. They're too tired for serious racing, but some would work well as cruising sails on your boat. Be careful to look for ones with hanks (unless you've got roller furling), as lots of racing sails are set up with luff tape on the leech. Also: post your request on the Swap Meet. Occasionally, guys sell sails right here on this forum, but I didn't have any luck scrounging up someone who wanted to sell me a 130%. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I have been looking for a new 135 genoa for my 1982 standard rig 25 since I purchased a used roller furler.

I have yet to purchase the sail, but Cruising Direct Sails, (North Sails through West Marine) had not only the best price, but actually has Catalina sails pre-cut and in stock. I am an inland lake sailor, not yet racing, so it looks like a good deal to me.

Most other places I contacted (Catalina.com, Doyle, Banks, etc.) were significantly more expensive and had anywhere from a 4-6 week lead time

Try Sail Warehuse out of California. I bet you will will find that they can furnish a new sail for the price of a used one!!. Just helped a Catalina owner with his rigging in Anacortes (he purchased his new rigging from West Marine, and it was way too long on the fore stays) and he just purchased a new genoa, main, and furler, for a price that would knock your socks off!!

A couple of years ago, someone also posted that they purchased a new sail, but they could not deliver it in time for a race. The folks bundled up a loaner and sent it to him until his sail was built!!

Now that is service (and I have purchased three sets of sail from these folks!!) Telephone number is 1 800 495 7245

I just went through this and I agree with folks up above. I'm a lake sailor and do not race. I purchased my sails through National Sail Company in Fort Meyers (1-800-611-3823, tell him the Patrick Burnett sent you) They are Rolly Tasker Sails. Dirk is a great guy, has precut C25 sails in stock and they do the insignias and numbers for cheap too! I got a RF155 and a std half-batten main for $1100 including shipping. I paid an extra $35 for the insignia. these are new sails. I priced used, but they were only about $200 to $300 cheaper. I have my old sails and don't know what to do with them. they are fairly worn but still worked great, but nothing like these new ones, they have a great form and they are lightweight. Perfect for Lake sailing with freaky variable winds. She really liked the 15knot winds we were getting around the 4th, great shape! Lots of Telltales and leach line adjustments and they fit perfect. Good Luck!
