With in the next couple of days I will finally order an IDA kickup rudder and tiller for "Brandy". Need advice as to disposition of the old first generation kick up rudder and WEATHERED tiller. Sell it, swap it or keep it for an emergency spare. Also has anyone ordered a tiller cover from Catalina Direct that fits an IDA tiller? Once again THANX in advance for any info.
Bear! I have the IDA rudder and love it. I don't know anything about their tillers as I chose to use the one I had already, which was probably a mistake considering the fabrication I had to go through in order to get everything working properly. That being said, I also mounted a Davis tiller tamer on the handle and so my old cover would not fit over it. I had one made at my local sail loft/canvas shop. I am pretty sure it cost me about $42.00 Worth every penny! Bill
Willy, I bought the last IDA rudder in the current series for C250's along with the tiller. They gave me a discount besides. There new C 250 rudder [water ballast for now] has a gas cylinder attached to help raise the rudder out of the water. They sent me a picture of the new rudder installed on a boat standing straight up in the air. I guess I will keep old kickup rudder and tiller around for a while...
Wow, I often thought raising the rudder was a task with this baby....sounds like they are working it out. I probably won't be replacing mine anytime too soon though! I do have to replace the lifting line before launch this year as it shredded on the day I pulled the boat!
