As the season (at least in the NorthEast) winds down toward the Autumn, the cost of my "project" 25 has been extraordinary (yes, I probably made every mistake possible) the cost of equipment, ditto, but the sailing . . . priceless. I just wish that boats like the Catalina 25 were made today!!! Next year I tackle electrical and pluimbing . . . stay tuned
I am in a similar position, I received as a gift a 1984 C25 SK. the boat is kept on lake Travis (TX), and is totally dry, dirty. most line need to be replace, and maybe the sails. Out board need service, so i bought carburetor service kit ($30), if this will not do the trick, than I will give it to the mechanic.
When you buy a use boat, items are used, if you get a used boat for free, and you spent another "X" amount (let's say $5000), than you now have a used boat with brand new items, and not used.
I bought my running rigging from Cajun as I needed everything and the quality and service were great. However, if I were to do it again i would not purchase the entire package. The likelyhood that i will fly a spinaker is low and as I have a furling system I really do not need both the jib and geneoa sheets, etc. You can purchase individual items and save some money. had I bought only what I needed it would have cost @$300.00 Catalina Direct has nice line packages also, but not as complete as Cajun. If you need the standing rigging catlaina Direct has kits -- but -- check with your local rigger. I found that it cost the same to have the work done as the Catalina kit by having the rigger work on his schedule when he had time off season.

When he set up the rig that next spring, he said they were excellent.
