I like the idea of a punch for the hole for the grommet. We have used a hot knife to cut the fabric to get the grommet through. If you are like me before you know it the 8 yards will be all gone and you will have to stop and think where it all went, engine cover, line bags etc. I do have one idea for you since you guys trailer sail like us. My wife made a cover for the companionway hatch and companionway. It serves multiple purposes. First it protects the teak at the companionway from the sun. It helps keep dust and leaves out of the boat. It has two large pockets forward that open port and starboard. These are held closed with velcro. When the mast is down the shrouds are coiled into the pockets for trailering. She also made long tubes the at are held closed with velcro. These hold the portions of the shrouds together and off the deck so they do not chafe the deck while on the road. When we go the boat it had snaps on deck for the cover - just like for a pop top.
