It seems that buying the boat was the easy part. Now that I bought "Kaija", finding a boat hauler that can move it from Southern to Northern Ohio isn't as easy as I thought it would be. She's on a trailer but I don't have enough truck.

Anybody know anybody that can pull a 6,000 pound boat and trailer to Sandusky without mortgaging my first born?

Uhaul, if you have them there, rent trucks that can tow that, however, you may have to change the towing ball and make sure your insurance coverage on your AUTO policy is up to par.

Just like Rick said. It sould not cost you that much to rent it for the day. You can start out in the morning and have the truck back by nightfall. Cheers and good luck.

John, we hauled our new 250WK from Iowa to Oregon - 2,000 miles! Rent or borrow a truck. It is not hard. Make it a 3/4 ton truck if possible although a 1/2 ton will do it. Go 55 and you'll be fine.

Be careful, that 1/2 ton doesn't have the brakes to do a hard stop and that is if the trailer has any brakes. It's the rear axle that makes the difference, each rear wheel has two sets of bearings and larger diameter drums or rotors on a 3/4 ton rated truck but check the fine print. I tow alot and my C25 with trailer is closer to 8,000 lbs.

I opted for the U-haul. I own a 1/2 ton Suburban but did not know the state of the brakes on my "new" trailer and wanted a truck that could stop if the surge brakes failed. My haul was about 250 miles across New York and cost almost $500 including fues and tolls. When you quote with U-haul, check local and one way rentals - if you can get a ride to the boat's location, one way might be cheaper. GOOD LUCK!!

Jim, you are right. A C250 trailer BETTER have brakes. My Yukon is 1/2 ton and we made the trip OK and drove slowly and defensively. If I did much towing I would definitely want 3/4 ton.

I've talked to U-Haul earlier this week. Got conflicting messages. One person (who, for other reasons, led me to think wasn't the brightest bulb ) said they don't have the equipment to do it. So, I tried another store and he thought that one of the 14 foot box trucks would work. Didn't instill confidence in me and it seems like overkill. I'm going to pick up the sails, motor and other things at the PO's house today.

Barry, Duane, I'll send you each an e-mail.

John, Renting a motorhome is one up from a U-Haul and if you can make a weekend of it it might be interesting. They are capable of towing your boat.

We rented a motorhome and took it from N.Y. to Ca. and back...what a blast!!! Except for Donner Pass

John.
Stop by your local Camper RV trailer sales and ask them who hauls their trailers. Most of the trailers are hauled from Elkhart IN. The problem with those haulers is that they return empty. I'm sure one of them would love to haul your boat trailer to Northern Ohio. They are licensed and bonded and usually have 1 ton dually.

John,
I just caught that the boat is in southern Ohio. Where? I'm in Cincinnati and headed to the Chicago Boat show in a couple of weeks. We're also headed to northwest Ohio the end of Feb. If the wait is not a problem, I could drop it off.
