One of my action items was to post the top search terms from our search bar.
As most of you know, the google tool bar to the right provides the association revenue for people who click the “preferred links” after conducting a search. This particular feature is really small $$ compared to other stuff we have, but we do get the benefit of being able to see the most searched terms.
The thought process behind posting this is kind of 3 fold – first it is strictly informational, second – it has potential for one of those fun topics and 3rd it gives the tech editors and members ideas for articles for the mainsheet or to create tech tips for our site. Since they are at the top of the list they obviously show some value to somebody somewhere.
So for the quarter ending 12/31/06 here are your top twenty give or take:

If would have put it in the middle I would have never noticed....I actually went to google and reran the list to double check - with this group you never really can be sure.
Frank plugged "Don Johnson" into the top of the list using his almighty superpowers as administrator.
The result was me deleting it, him questioning my sense of humor, me confirming he posted it and him questioning my reasoning ability as to which person actually added Don Johnson followed by my followup email.
I'm with Don. I don't get the connection: Stu Jackson/Don Johnson?
On a slightly related thought, I tried to log onto the forum while waiting in the customer lounge at my car dealer, only to find that Google and "AOL/Google enhanced" could not update my search for our new web address. It listed a page for the old Catalina25-250.org address that only had links for gambling sites. (I use IE "Favorites" to link from my home computer, so I don't have to remember the address.) Perhaps you savvy webmasters should look into redirecting such searches. Maybe we are missing some potential viewers and new members?
Dan, No actual connection between the two he just merely inserted the name for the heck of it.
I did a google search and the first thing that popped up was our site. The old site came in third (you mentioned it above. with the ads on it) All I typed in was Catalina 25.
We do not own the rights to the old address and never actually did but because of that we don't have the ability to redirect any of that stuff.

Duane: Thank you for letting me know that the directional keel made the top twenty search items. Unfortunately, R&D into this wonderful invention for the fin keel cat 25 had to be halted and "black boxed" because of budget contraints related to mounting a campaign for the 2007 Nationals. Capt. Ron
But........are you planning on making it this year...the constraints had to do with the 2006 nationals. If you experience the same problem I might have a tow vehicle for you!!
Thanks for the explanation, Duane. I don't remember now whether the old site address was first-ranked, or what on-ramp the dealer's web access was subscribed to, maybe AOL(?). My real concern was if we were losing legitimate sailing-related searches and if Google could be advised it was slighting us.
Off-topic: I visited my marina today and the Buffalo harbor channels have no ice. Lake temp is 37f. Very unusual here. I heard the situation is similar at Cleveland, where lake freighters are still in action.
