I am searching for a mast step for my 1981 Capri 25. I spoke to Kent at the factory and he indicated he doesn't have the cast in stock or even the name of the manufacturer. The step I have has severe corrosion and the sheaves need replacing but the *&%@^*%! retaining pins are corroded in place. Lubricants and punch pin hammering have been to no avail.
Does anyone have a source for the step, non OEM step replacement, name of the mast manufacturer or an idea how to restore the step?

Thanks

Chris has the drawing for the mast on his site, but there isn't anything for the step casting itself. Maybe this will help you track it down.

If you're a member of the yahoo capri group, you should post there as well, if you're not, let me know and I'll post for you.

Thanks Rick, unfortunately I can't open your attachment. Is it a PDF file?

I didn't know there was a YAHOO Capri group so any help in posting would be greatly appreciated. I would think this may be an issue for others given the age of our boats.

Thanks for the info and support.

Thanks Rick, I applied to Yahoo for membership. Unfortunately, I can't seem to open your MAST file. It says the file is no longer available.

Thanks for all the help.

On an unrelated note, I have figured out how to replace the bulkhead if anyone needs the process, let me know.

Regards,

Her's the link, just tried it and it worked:

http://capri25.com/DRAWINGS/Cp%2025%20Mast%20Section%20(Large).JPG

Try a cut and paste, or just go to Chris's site and scroll down and click the mast section link on the left.

As to the bulkhead, there has been a lot of discussion about that just recently, you might want to write up the process and if you have pictures that's even better. Chris may want to use it for a technical article in the Mainsheet as he's the technical editor for the Capri 25.

I am always looking for stuff to add to the site. Post it on the forum and I will put it in the mainsheet so everyone can take a look. Did you try Catalina Direct? I also thought I saw one on Ebay 4 months ago, I will look again and see if its still there. Another idea is to unbolt the mast step and take it to a machine shop and see if they can drill out the pins and replace them. Just a thought.

Great, thanks. Is anyone using the Keynon step with 4 sheaves? If so, how did you handle the 5th halyard?

Thaks so much.

Regards,
Pat

One main, One Jib, One Genoa, One topping Lift for pole all exit at the base, and the spinnaker halyard, just drill a cut-out on the starboard side of the mast and add a cam cleat so you can get the spinnaker up fast.

Thanks for all the help. By any chance would anyone have a picture of their mast/sheave/halyard setup?

Thanks so much. Now that I have the bulkhead ready to go back into the boat, I'm ready to finish the mast step.
