Well, the Admiral (Pat) and I are back from Manchester Iowa where we picked up our "new" 2000 C250 WK. Thanks to all the great advice I got from this forum the 2,000 miles of towing back to Eugene, Oregon was all smooth sailing. Well, OK, the Admiral was tightly gripping the door handle during some strong cross-winds in Nebraska. We took 4 1/2 days to make the trip. The Yukon was at the edge of its towing capacity but rose to the occasion and did a great job.
The boat is now parked at the club since our lake is drained until March. I'll spend the winter dreaming up projects.
Thanks again everyone! Randy
We cannot direct the winds but we can adjust our sails.
Congrats Randy, The door handle grip loosens with wear!
You'll save a lot of dreaming just reading the forum.
Things you may have already thought of (or read)
Furler supports Storage units Cabin step seats (does yours have the wooden or plastic treads?) LED lights. Splitting the V-Berth cover Hooks - Hooks everywhere! Water pump Washdown GPS VHF A/C (do you really need that up there?) Additional Battery Curtains Storeage D-Shackle for port side Baby stay 12v outlets Storeage Flag halyard Ice box Shore power
that should get you going, and you can find all of them searching the forum. What date is the water deep enough and till when? (Why do they drain the lake?)
I can guarantee that you won't need the whole winter to dream up projects. We bought our "new to us" C-25 in March of this year. I completed this years projects about 3 weeks ago, but the list grows faster than I can do the projects. Most of them aren't necessary, just trying to put our own personality into her.
Paul, the next closest water is the Columbia River. We got the bigger boat so we can go cruise in the San Juans and will do that starting next spring. Does this forum ever organize group cruises?
The fleet up here in Portland has been organizing informal group cruises in the San Juans each year. I will get you a contact, I have a horrible mental block on the name of our fleet captain each year. Gary, if you are reading this, please help my clueless self...
Please make sure and let me know when you plan to go, and I will do the same for you. I got a trailerable boat for the same reason. I am a wimp sailor, and my wife is still getting used to it all, so going together might not work for you, but we might be able to meet somewhere up there...
The Admiral and I are definitely up for a San Juans cruise in the spring. We'd love to go with some other sailors and, of course, C250 sailors are the best.
