At my Dock they have regular outlets that you see in any home. Where do I get a cord that plugs in to that outlet and has the proper end to plug into the boat. My 82 sk has the original recepticle on the boat are they all standard and what model cord do I need and where can I get one?

Thanks,

Pete,

I'm pretty much ignorant about shore power. In fact its been only recently that I discovered that mine actually works and that it only powers up the outlets in the boat.

I can say that I've seen some boats using standard power cords but don't know how they are connected. I'm prety sure that the plugs (standared electrical & shore power plug) won't mix on the same cord however.

Be patient. I'm sure someone on the forum will have a definitive answer for you.

We made our own adapter for when we are on the hard - It was much cheaper than the exhorbitant pricing for the adapter itself, since you can get most of the stuff at Home Depot.

you can pick up the female end here or at any number of places

then just but a few feet of the right guage line and a regular three prong plug from the hardware store. Be sure to get all the polarity stuff lined up correctly and you are set.

"We made our own adapter "

Ditto here. Purchased plugs and a short piece of SO cord at an electrical supply house. Took 10 minutes. Total cost about $25 as I recall.

Also made my own short marine-to-household adapter cord from stuff laying around the house.

If you are in a hurry, you can buy what you are looking for a West Marine, and most other marine supply stores.

Pete, I have always been told plug the plug into the boat first than into the outlet, something to do with safety/polarity etc... Alan
