OK We finally got some decent wind on Saturday and got the boat moving. Took a few puffs that got her healing over 12-15. Funny after more than 30 years of sailing dingeys when she healed my initial reaction was to move and maybe even hike. Not like 200 lbs is going to do much on the rail. lol Any way the wind was nice and the boy and I sailed as the sun set and made our way in under just more than half the moon and a great breeze. Ahh, that was better than frying like eggs in light to no wind the last few weeks.

A few comments and questions.

I had a lot of lee helm which seemed to be less with the keel dropped more. Any thoughts on this?

What is with the rudder wobbling as speed builds? It felt like the rudder itself was wobbling through the water. I don't think it was the pintals and gudgens but maybe it was. I know I have a new rudder on its way Tuesday so maybe that will help. I'll let you know.

In much breeze at all cross sheeting is the sweet ticket. Very easy and if you happened to drop the winch crank, it seems to have a better chance of falling into the cockpit rather than down it to the water. Naturally most people will be more comfortable sailing on the high side and you have a better view of your approaching surroundings. Give cross sheeting a try, just use the leward winch as a turning block no wrap needed then straight up to the windward winch drum and 3 wraps around the cleat.

Howards Restore a Finish, GOOD FOR WOOD, Wow that was easy and looked great. I could not find the feed and wax but did rub in some lemon oil and the end result was stunning. Made worn tired wood in the cabin look fresh.

Did the queen sized bed thing that evening with a self inflating mattress. Three pieces of 3/4 ply wood across the two setees. I had a temporary set up but will fabricate some thing to build it up to clear the keel truck box. Boy oh boy it was almost as comfortable as my bed at home. We had much better sleeping weather too, rather than a bizillion degrees and 20 gozillion bugs.

Started organizing all the stuff that has been accumulating on board and deciding where I will store it.

All in all a very nice boys weekend. Next project is to get my wife away from work and on board. She's more of a princess than a salty dog though. However the way the boat is looking smelling and set up she may actually like it. She has raced with me in younger days but not nuch in the past several years. The boy is loving it though especially the night sailing, we had a blast.

Hi Pete, we are in the same boat, weather wise, here in Lake St. Clair. I took two of my daughters out sailing today and when we hit 35 degrees I looked over and saw my oldest crying......so, I slacked off and headed for the barn. She thought we were flipping over. I guess she does not like the water to much. As far as cross sheeting, I was doing that yesterday and found that if I put three wraps of the low side, come across the cabin and put two wraps on the high side, then to the cleat, all I had to do was pull the line between the winches, this will only pull from the low side, then when I let off, pull in the slack on the high side winch. With all that leverage, I did not need a crank. Cheers.
