Hi All, well here is a little pictorial of a set of speakers my daughter Laura and I built during the heat wave of the last two weeks. Cheers.

Here is all the guts

Boxes made of MDF

Half veneered. This is the point when I called for help because I was screwing it up so bad.

Finished with the 1354 installed.

Yep, that is a JBL car grill I got from a local car audio place. $10 for both. When these are in a dorm, the grills will be manditor .

Here is the back with the hookups and rear firing tweeter. These really don’t need the tweet. They will be up against the wall so I don’t know what I was thinking in the first place.

Left

Right

She is using the Crown hooked up to her laptop for player and power.

Laura is on the left, my in the center and my other daughter, Sara, on the right. Sara and I are going to start a pair of Line Arrays for her dorm the week. Cheers.

You're replacing those gorgeous woofers behind the speaker cabinets? Why?

Hi Brooke, the horn system behind the ones we built are MY system. I just hooked up the Lauras speakers to my amp to see how they would sound. Cheers.

There is a look in the eyes of both your daughters, it says "thats my dad" and they say it with pride. They are lucky to have such a cool dad and they know it. You look mighty lucky too. Back in the day I was a McIntosh guy and always had very low efficiency speakers with large amps.
Speakers are a black art but the music is pure white magic.

Hi Nadi, the bass speakers are 80hz expo flares made by Dr. Bruce Edgar. They have the Altec 515B 15" driver. The round wood horns are Dr. Edgars 350hz tratrix horns and I have the Altec 288C on the back of them. The tweeter is a Fane 5522. I built the crossovers with oilcaps from the 40s. The whole system is driven by a 300B tube amp I built. It sounds great.

a) the man has achieved home-built audio nirvana
b) someday "La Tina Caliente" is going to have an electrical panel we'll all drool over
