I just replaced the two bulkheads in front. I could not find a way to place back the new port-side bulkhead without eliminating the small section that inserts in the mast step support beam. I figured that all the bolts and screws provide plenty of support to the bulkhead. I am now working on the aft bulkheads. By the way, does anyone ever use the sink and the little water tank behind it? I am thinking of removing it. My wild idea is to replace it with a hook for a small beer keg. Is this wrong thinking???....

I have been told that when you remove the port side bulkhead that you need to rotate the the post 90 deg toward the aft side of the boat. This way you can remove the damaged bulkhead and insert the new bulkhead into the rabbit joint, then you rotate it back into place. I have seen people also use some L brackets and just screw the new bulkhead into the post.

As far as the BEER KEG goes " Photos or it never happened" I think that the KEG would be a little over kill, but I have really never used my sink for anything but storage. It a great place to throw the winch handle. As far as the water tank, I think that it's in a crappy place, there is no real access to it to clean, and who uses it racing? It did come in handy when the wife looked at the boat before we bought it. "Look honey a little sink to wash the dishes" Just what she goes out on the boat for.

I removed the tank and have a Plastimo bladder that I am going to install in the port aft quarterberth locker to replace it. The bladder will be removable so when the boat is on the hard in the winter, the tank is simply disconnected and removed.

Photos will be posted tonight on the bulkheads. I saw what Volare looks like with the white bulkheads so I painted them white after water sealing the wood. I did the 90 degrees <i>"move"</i> but there was no way to get it in if cut to fit the rabbit joint. I also filled the old holes with epoxy and re-drill them for good grab. That thing is solid in place.

I guess the beer drop will be more of an amusement thing with sailors at the dock, so why not. I could even hook up a cheap wine bag to it if does not ruin my reputation. I agree, the water tank can't even be serviced and to remove it one has to break the box around it.

Kmart (Martha Stewart Living, so spousal points are available) sells a trash can that fits the sink hole. It is perfectly located to deposit the PRBs and additional barley pops consumed while racing.
