This is our new Bimini. OK, but first this is the Cabin Cover to help protect pop-top seal, avoid any leaks, and protect the teak some.
Front view with "windows" in place. We needed them this past weekend. Note that things are loose right now because the Port back pole is dis-connected and the front straps are loose. The aft pole is hanging down on the port side but you can "sort of" see the pole mounted on the starboard side. This aft pole has a quick release pin for easy access at the dock.
Inside view.
Center zipper mounted on Cabin top Slide.
Wing Snaps
Low profile mount on outside of jib track.
Everything worked pretty well the first use this past weekend.
If I had it to do over:
1. I have not tested the "fit" if I store the front poles placed against the aft support pole. Right now it is stored forward tied to the bottom of the boom. (We remove the Sunbrella when we aren't there.) It looks like I would have to use the topping lift to "store" the boom up higher so the forward poles will go under the boom.
2. Only with the boom fully out to the side (way out) does the main sheet even touch the aft support pole. I could probably move the aft pole mount down to minimize that without affecting stability. For now it's not a problem.
3. Topping lift. I was having trouble with the topping lift "wrapping" around the back stay. I'll do another topic to ask about that.
Just wanted to show another Bimini design. I've seen many others and they were very helpfull when we designed ours.
Hi Scott, looks good indeed. Lots more room under the standard rig. I see you refinished the teak too. Now I gotta get some elbow grease in if we are going to dock next to you again. We've missed all the outings this year but now the new crew is in place we hope to catch up in the fall.
Very nicely done. Any difficulty going forward with the bimini up? My mounts are on the coaming top and it can be a bit tricky stepping along the outside of them. I usually just drop the bimini forward before leaving the cockpit to go on deck.
The cabintop cover has been discussed here before and I really like the way yours looks. If that item ever makes it to the top of my "things to add to the boat" list, I'll use your picture for the model. Only thing different is that I've got a poptop and would use the poptop enclosure snap locations, which would also cover the teak grabrails and "eyebrows."
As far as Moving forward: It was difficult with the wings (Windows) in place. We simply unsnapped the wing sides (pic 5) and we had plenty of room. You still have to duck but if you look at the 2nd and 3rd pic you can see the room you have without the windows in place. My wife and I are fairly agile so we don't aticipate any issues there.
Pop-top cover: We really looked at covering those too. Thing is, on our boat the pop-top cover (came with the boat) uses snaps "inside" of the grabrails. The cabin cover (pic 1) we got uses "only" the existing snaps. I had that as one of my requirements.
Nadi, Sandra will appreciate you noticing the teak. She did almost all that work herself.
