What brand and model?

Is it self contained or a seawater model?

How many amps does it pull?

What brand and model generator do you use away from the dock?</font id="Comic Sans MS"></font id="blue">

Andy,

I have a Troy-Built 900Watt non-inverter genset cost $380.00
Not as nice as Honda or Yamaha, more noise and heavier (approx 38 lbs) but half the price. I have not tried my 600watt microwave yet but should be close, the worst that would happen is the genset stalls.
Hampton Bay 5200 BTU AC draws 4.8 amps @120VAC $75.00
AC is mounted in forward hatch mounted on foam pad and bungeed,
6x 8 tarp bungeed as well. I took the sheet metal frome off and put a hand grip on the top for easier lifting and removed the flow direction pieces for unrestricted flow. Really cools off boat,
put a small clip fan on the bulkhead to push air back to the
quarterberth for good distribution.
Genset is mounted in cockpit on stern starboard lazarett also bungeed. Cord is run from genset to shorepower socket. I mounted AC
recepticle under vanity, AC plugs in there, Nice for charging batteries and cooling down cabin, however, I would need an CO monitor
if I were to sleep with Genset/AC running.

Nice... thanks for posting.

This gives me more ideas.

Did you mount the AC on top or below of the hatch?
What do you do with the condensation that builds up?

I have been scouring the net looking for a small ac unit that doesn't require a seawater pickup (self-contained) and doesn't require too many amps. The moisture can be sent overboard by the bilge pump. I am willing to go up to a Honda 2000 but no larger.

I have built mine in on two 25s now. I am very pleased with having it onboard. All I do is set the reversible fans in the sail locker hatch, one blowing down and one blowing up and turn on the AC.

Andy,

I should take a picture, I used a packing pad 12 inch by 15 inch,
the spongee stuff that is gray and has a egg cratr type side by flat side, Set the AC on that in front of hatch, wrap a 6x8 tarp around the AC with a bungee, pull the tarp around the back of the open hatch and secure with bungee, then use two bungees to stanchions to hold. The back off the AC has a small filling and I attached a 1/2 plastic hose to run over side, I built a companion way mount but it was a pain with condensate dripping on my head like a chinese water torture. You will need a blanket in the vee berth and a fan to blow back to the other berth. I dont use this often so I did not build a hard sided frame like most liveaboard people do, being short on storage space. I dont not leave the AC on while I am away or hook to shore power for long periods due to galvanic issues (Salt Water).
Of coarse this is only used at anchor and would not suggest in a choppy anchorage. I will probably do this on my trip down to West Palm Beach in May.
