Has anyone installed a fresh air vent in the hatch cover above the V berth? Solar Nicro's go for over 100 bucks at WM but they do have a simple one for around 30 bucks, the Nicro 3" White AirVent. Just found one at boatersoutlet.com for 14 bucks, a clearance item.
Re posts about mast gates: the gates from CD have to be back ordered, they're not in stock.
I installed the Nicro solar "Day and Night 2000". I've had it for two years now and am very happy with it. Like the name says, it runs day and night. It keeps the air fresh inside all winter when the boat is closed up. I used to go through a bunch of the refillable "Damp-Rid" stuff before I got the vent. I don't use the Damp-Rid any more and I've had no mildew problems at all.
What a good idea... does it draw or exhaust the air? Does it run on power/batteries/solar or combinations? Where did you buy it? Would it work in colder climates? Is it wave-over-bow proof?
It's baffled to supposedly avoid water splashing in. If you like to bury your bow on occasion, you can pop the vent out and stick a cap over the hole. The vent comes with two fans - to flow in or out - your choice. It charges a battery inside the unit as it runs on solar power. At night, it runs off the battery. I got my 3" plastic model at West Marine.
