I would like to "beef up" my main halyard, i.e. increase its diameter for better gripping for haul-up. Is there a maximum diameter, or is the factory installed already max?
What's the best way to join the existing halyard with a larger diameter halyard to thread its way down inside the mast?

Not sure about increasing the diameter, maybe Catalina can tell you, but to change just duct tape the two ends together and pull the new halyard through...you can also sew them together and do the same thing, it is pretty easy as I replaced my original halyard when it snagged on something and was damaged...Dan #727

Frank, don't forget to check your deck clutches. If you go to big the line won't fit through your deck clutches. I don't recall what the max size line that goes through mine is, but you may want to check yours first. If I recall correct its stamped on the clutch somewhere.

Just checked the equipped diameter: 3/8". As for the clutch, anything larger won't go through so I'll have to live with the existing halyard and always wear sailing gloves

and . . . Catalina has a maximum size that will go through your pulleys at the top of the mast. The size stated in your manual is 5/16's. They told me not to exceed it.

Are you giving me the middle finger as a response to my question? If not, just what is a "Chinese finger" exactly?
