Has anyone installed 2 batteries in the bow compartment? I want to add 2 batteries to my 250 for more power and to shift the weight up front. I assume that a 2 x 4 frame to hold 2 battery boxes is the way to go but would like some suggestion to what others have done. I have some West systems epoxy to epoxy whatever framework I need to the hull. I'm thinking I would have to "grind" a little on the hull to get rid of any wax for a good bond. I will also have to run new wire. What size? #6?
I put two batteries under the v-berth on a p;lywood shelf I glassed to the hull. I couldn't find any marine grade plywood, so I painted a regular piece with epoxy (tinted white). I sanded the inside hull around where the battery shelf would sit and epoxied it in, using some strips of fiberglass along the edges. With the up and down pounding the bow sometimes gets, I didn't want anything to break loose. I cut some slots in the shelf for battery straps and set both batteries in plastic battery boxes. I think I used #8 wire. The biggest trick on a 250 is running the wires back to the 12-volt switch panel.
