In the C25 tech tips there is a Honda flush mod but I believe its for an 8hp model. I'd like to know if anyone has done similar for a 9.9 model from 1997.

Mark, See the this link to the recent forum topic "engine flushing". I posted some photos of the adapter you can purchase at a Honda Dealer. If you have the rounded cowling on your 9.9 it should be similar to this set up. The flush adapter costs about $15.00.
Thanks, I read the thread for your topic but I think you have a newer model outboard than I do. Mine has the squarish cowling. I called the local Honda o/b parts dealer and the only thing they had was a fitting to screw into the foot (it doesn't sound right to me) for use while out of the water. The parts guy also said the motor needed to be running. It seems like a set of ears does the same thing.
I can't get a good seal around the intake with any of the ears I've tried. When I flush the motor, it's got to be running and to run, it's got to be upright and to be upright, the foot is going to be submerged and when submerged and not having a good seal with the ears, I'm essentially flushing with brackish water.
That's why the C25 tech topic looks good to me but I don't have the same hoses as what's shown in the photos, therefore, I'm looking for anyone who has done something similar with an older 9.9.
Mark, I have the "squarish" 8hp model and it was always my understanding that the 9.9 was identical except for carb and cam differences. The hose to tap into is the only water hose on the engine and transfers water from the lower assembly to the cylinder head assembly. If you can post a picture of the area around your spark plugs we might be able to offer some additional direction or rule it out as an answer.

The 9.9 was essentially the same as the 15, and the 8 was smaller. On the new (round) models, the 8 and 9.9 are the same engine. There are no flush ports on the older ones--Farmhand's bucket trick might be the simplest solution. For those of us with lifting brackets, it's even better.
Howdy Skin, I've got a 9.9 and I know Honda makes a special garden hose flush fitting. Don't know the P/N. I just use a 42 qt garbage can. You how Honda is.
The less expensive ears worked real well for me.I tilted the engine to the first knotch. The don'nt need a perfect seal as long as the water flows through.Actually, the flush your engine best.Get the ones with the single bib on the lower end.5.95 at WM.Run at idle for 10 min. These comments come from my Honda dealer in Costa Mesa ca.
