Did you ever find out about this area Rick? I am interested in putting a pump here also, and maybee dropping my tranducers in this area with a round access port. Update please
I didn't as there is not any access from there to the keel box which I was hoping for. I would not install transducers there either as that part of the hull frequently comes out of the water when you plane. You're going to get weird depth reading and very inconsistant speed readings.
From Catalina Yachts. We have the fiberglass layup files on the yahoo capri group site, but you need to join it to access them. You don't need to do that, email me and I'll gladly send you copies for your own reference. There are quite a few files, if you want, I'll put them all in a zip file and email them to you. Your call.
The fiberglass layup was very important to me because I was replacing class in the hull and the deck. some pointers for the future. It seems that the core mat that is sandwiched into the glass will be eaten away if polyester resin is used. When repairing the deck I cut out all of the core mat in this section of repair and just replaced it with solid glass and resin. By pounding on the deck you can hear the difference between the coremat and the solid glass repair. I really liked working with the polyester resin, It was faster to work with than epoxy. I could wet out 3 layers of glass put it down, and roll all the air out of the layup. It was an easy process, just took my time. The neat thing about glass work is that if you screw it up, you can just grind it off and start over.
