Here is what I finally did to mount my pole. I bought a Forespar pole chock for the aft stanchion and then a stanchion eye that I mounted on the bow pulpit. I then used a snap hook to clip the forward end to the pulpit. It is securely held and mostly out of the way. I sure am glad to finally have it out of my cabin!
Finally, last night I installed a small piece of 2" diameter (I think) PVC pipe, as John V. did. I got on a ladder tied to the mast at the top, drilled 2 holes and screwed it to the mast. I cut a slot in the front side (parallel to the mast) of the PVC pipe to give a little more flexibility when removing or stowing the whisker pole. The slot also gave me the ability to get a screwdriver through to the screw head. I pre-drilled the holes in the PVC and used a larger drill bit to campher the holes so a flat top screw is flush with the interior. This is probably one of the easiest and cheapest (I had the PVC and the screws) projects with the biggest payoff - more space on the side decks. Thanks for the tip John V.
