There are lots of posts regarding this issue in the archives. Some like Raytheon. Others like myself, have the Simrad TP10. Both brands are probably comparable in terms of reliability and performance although I am sure there are some out there who would argue the point. Still others will suggest upgrading to the next larger size to ensure it will steer your boat in all conditions. I like my TP10 because above all it does what I want it to do - steer the boat so I can do other things away from the tiller. Secondarily, it was half the price of it's competitors.
I think everyone will agree that mounting either one in your boat is pretty straight forward and bullet proof if you follow the instructions. All you'll need for tools is a drill, couple of bits, a screw driver, and some wire to add power from your panel.
