I HAVE AN 03 250, THE OUTBOARD IS ON THE STARBOARD SIDE, THE BATTERY ON THE PORT SIDE AFT OF DOUBLE BUNK, IN AN OPENING THAT IS DIFFICULT TO WORK. I HAVE RUN THE ELECTICAL LEAD THROUGH THE RUDDER BOOT (WHEEL STEERING) THIS INTERFERES WITH THE RUDDER AND WILL PROBABLY CHAFE THE WIRING. I HAVE READ SOME OF THE FORUM SUGGESTIONS BUT THEY DON'T SEEM TO FIT MY BOAT. I HAVE THOUGHT OF INSTALLING A SECOND BATTERY BUT NOT SURE WHERE TO PUT IT, I DON'T WANT IT IN THE COMPARTMENT WITH THE FUEL TANK NOR IN THE LOCKER WITH THE PROPANE TANK (EVEN IF IT COULD FIT) ANY SUGGESTIONS
AFTER POSTING THIS I READ ALL OF THE REST OF THE FORUM AND FD SEVERAL SUGGESTIONS FOR BATTERY INSTALLATION, I DIDN'T REALIZE THE AFT BULK HEAD WOULD COME OFF EASILY, SO IT DOESN'T SEEM THAT WILL BE A PROBLEM. I AM STILL NOT SURE HOW TO RUN CABLES TO OUTBOARD, I READ THE TIP FROM AL MANICCIA, I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED BY PICTURES, I TAKE IT THE CABLES FROM THE MOTOR ARE IN THE BLACK HOSES RUNNING FROM THE STARBRD SIDE OF THE OUTBOARD TO A PORT IN THE AFT SECTION JUST STRBRD OF THE RUDDER, AM I RIGHT?
Last year I upgraded to an electric start engine. I drilled a hole in the curved transom on the starbord side next to the engine. I placed the hole about center on the transom. I inserted the wires for the engine through the hole, applied some sealant, and covered the hole with a small clamshell vent. I used either west marine 180349 or 180356. (I think it was the smaller one) the installation is neat, and pulling the wires back out should I have to remove the engine should be fairly simple. Bill c250wb #134 Serendipity
George, yes the black cables on the right side of the motor (left side in the picture below) are the motor remote control cables (throttle & shift):
They go to the fuel locker, where the remote control is mounted. I installed a small thru-hull fitting in the bottom corner of the fuel locker, which allowed the cables to line up correctly with the remote control:
All electrical cables/wires are in the white hose on the opposite side of the motor. They are routed to another thru-hull installed just inboard of the propane vent:
The cables go directly to the two batteries (parallel wired, no switch), the other wires to the NavPod on the pedestal guard.
I also slipped on a length of slit cable cover on the fuel line to guard against UV damage and chafing on the clam shell where it enters the fuel locker.
Two things I might do differently next time:
1) Mount the remote on the pedestal instead of the fuel locker (but I'm pretty sure I like it where it is).
2) Run the electrical cables/wires to a bulkhead connector on the transom to facilitate removal of the motor. However, it may be easy to just disconnect the cables/wires at the motor when I need to remove the motor, so ask me again after I've had to do it!
I also used a trolling motor plug and socket from Sierra on the aft starboard side of the cockpit for an electric start Honda. Been working great for well over five years and VERY convenient to disconnect for motor servicing.
