My 1999 C250 Wing Keel has a Beckson Opening Port in the Head area. The part that opens has one of the hinges broken. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement for just that piece? I definitely don't want to remount the whole thing. Thanks.
I had broken hinges when I bought my 1997 C250wk. Problem was the broken part was on the port frame, not the piece that opens, so I had to replace the whole thing. Getting past the 5200 they glued it in with was a pain. After that, it went fairly easily. I'll see if I can find the Beckson part number for you.
Thanks Bubba that would help a great deal. As far as I can tell the broken hinge is on the lens side. I haven't torn it apart yet. How did you defeat the 5200?
Arlyn, good info as usual. Do you have the Beckson Model #...? I'm still hoping to only replace the Lens piece but may have to buy the whole thing. Did you use 5200 to reseat your new Port or somethng else? Thanks.
I used a clear marine silicone sealant instead of 5200 on the replacement. My reverse logic was: If I make subsequent replacement easier, I'll never need to.
I think the paper that came with my replacement port is somewhere on the boat, which I won't get back to until the weekend. This Beckson website might be more useful to you anyway: http://www.beckson.com/replace.html And yes, you can just order the lens.
Well, Bubba it's a Beckson Model 410..I got the Lens only but the last two Ears on the Frame broke off when I was installing. They seemed pretty brittle. Now, I have to do the whole body which is not much fun. Beckson provides great service.!
I went through all my boat-related papers yesterday but couldn't find anything for the port I replaced. I measured it though, and was going to tell you it was a 410, but I see you already know that. When I replaced the port, I struggled through the sealant with a cheap steak knife (we get 'em when we buy a box of deli meats). The knife has a thin flexible blade. I also used a razor blade scraper. I've read where others have used a thin wire (guitar string?) to cut through the sealant. Might be worth a try... Good luck with the replacement!
