I also installed the AR-3 anchor roller after reading these posts. Not having a right-angle drill, I took the forestay off to get the furling drum out of the way. I just slacked the rigging a little, and used the jib halyard to replace the forestay temporarily. Note to self: When you want slack in the forestay, don't forget to loosen the mainsheet!
For those of you who have the Snap Furl Furling system, I bought one this year and am quite happy with it. I believe my instructions say that the drum can be removed entirely or slid up the sleeve, without taking off the sail or removing the head stay. I will confirm this when I next get out to my boat and post the instructions if you need/want them.
Al, I have slid mine up the forestay (need to take off the sail) by removing the four bolts where the sail bends on the furler. You will only be able to slid it up approximately +/- 4"-6". After the initial movement upward the extruded foil will make contact with the mast head/top of forestay. With the forestay disconnected, the whole furler assembly slides down and off of the forestay.
I had to slide mine up to access the turnbuckle on the forestay when I was tuning the rig.
