Rita & I have been in SE Asia for the last couple of weeks, and I've been trying to find a sail boat to rent for most of the time. We found a Laser in Langkawi, Malaysia, but I've never sailed a high performance dinghy, and really didn't want to spend a bunch of time upside down in it (there was a stiff breeze). The two Hobie cats we found either had holed hulls, or no rigging. These would have been perfect, I used to race cats, and have sailed a number of different models and makes and would have been very comfortable in the wind. We finally found boats to rent today in Singapore, but you have to be a member of the club in order to rent them, or have a club member with you on board. I tried to rent using our association as an affiliation, but no dice. Are any of you members of one of the Singapore clubs who would be willing to host us? Of does anyone know someone who is a member who we could contact?
Any help would be appreciated, it's killing me that I haven't been able to sail here. There are J-24s at several clubs that are just waiting for us, if only we can get access.
I could have been sailing here...

If you have not found it already, go to the American Culb by Mt Elizabeth Hospital area and become an non voting member using your passport. I was a member there in the 90's and if they still have the same temporary privileges they ust too you should be in luck. If not go to the Naval Fleet head quarters at the fleet landing (that is for United States Navy) and talk to the Naval Harbor Master, he maybe able to help you. Tell Him HMC Bill Meinert sent you from Indiana, it might help.
Thanks Doc, Unfortunately I just arrived back in Seattle about two hours ago. Once Chinese New Year started there wasn't much of a chance of me getting to sail (Rita's Malaysian, but ethnically Chinese). Wish I'd have known, and it didn't occur to me to see if we had a Naval presence in the area, I'm ex-USN as well.
