Posted - 09/04/2021 : 06:43:41 Here's a link to an excellent explanation of the causes of trailer sway, with demonstrations of various remedies. It's well worth your time.
The only thing he leaves out is the overall recommendation that trailer tongue weight should be no less than 10% and no more than 15% of gross trailer weight. (He included that in a separate video.)
Posted - 09/04/2021 : 08:01:41 This video is about towing trailers, but the same principles apply to loading a pickup truck. I drove a small Ford Ranger with a heavy auto engine loaded too far back in the bed. The rear squatted down and it took too much weight off the front wheels, and it was very squirrely to steer, but it was "manageable" as long as I kept the speed down.
I posted this because it explains things of that nature that I never fully understood.
