Posted - 10/21/2024 : 22:01:46 I was at the Annapolis Sailboat Show and stopped by Quantum Sails to discuss replacing my 2007 Quantum Sails (Main and 150 Genoa). They were able to dig up my old paperwork with all the measurements they recorded from when they took measurements off my boat back in 2007. Ordering basically same sails/sailcloth as last time - Quantum Crosscut Sails out of Challenge Marblehead High Aspect 5.6 sailcloth. Only change I made was on the Furling Genoa - Instead of a UV Sunbrella cover, I am going with a lighter cover material made of Weathermax LT.

I am going to hold onto the old Quantum sails for several years - Probably will bring in new sails for inspection/warranty reasons and so I can use my old sails at those times. I am just starting a vacation to Australia/ ew Zealand and so I may have limited internet access. My daughter’s family will be babysitting our house. My boat is on independent ops.
Understand.
Have a great trip and send photos!

Posted - 10/22/2024 : 22:06:49 I recall the condition of the original Catalina sails - They were visually intact but the main was significantly stretched/blown out and the 150 Genoa also had significant stretch. The original sails were replaced with Quantum sails in 2007. So, the original sails were 18 years old. My Quantum sails that I am replacing are now 17 years old. The main has a small 2" tear which I placed a small stick-on sail patch a few years ago. Also has some stretch but much less than my original main. My Quantum 150 Genoa also has less stretch compared to the original 150 Genoa but it has some of the Sunbrella UV cover along the foot shredded. I have had to trim some of the sunbrella material off but otherwise the sailcloth along the foot is okay. My Quantum sails have been used a lot, show wear but overall okay.
Given how well the Challenge High Aspect sailcloth held up against significant stretching compared to the original sails, I went again with the Challenge High Aspect sailcloth.
