Preventing shackle fouling during
mast raising

Mast raising on the C250 is quite easy. One
problem area however, is ensuring that the shackles on the shroud turnbuckles
don't foul and bend the T-bolt. This requires careful attention that
turnbuckles don't lay over on the U-bolts as they tend to bind in that
position rather than swinging up as the shroud comes under tension. Despite my
attempts to be careful not to, I bent one last summer.
My preventive fix is to use a plastic tie
through the shackle portion of each T-Bolt and bond them together. The tie
needs to be one of the larger types about 1/16 x 3/8.
