Windblown - CDI Furler Forestay Length
Anyone with a CDI flexible furling system who is contemplating replacing their forestay might want to consider designing the length so that the bottom of the swage marine eye extends some distance into the top of the luff track. A double-jaw toggle at the masthead is not optional. Best to lay the whole mess out on land (toggles, turnbuckle, spool, luff track and marine eye) and take the total measurement which should be around 29'10". Now depending on how long your luff track is, it may be practical to have the new forestay cut a little shorter (bottom picture). You will obviously need to add toggles/tangs etc. on top or bottom to make up the lost length. l added an extra jaw/eye toggle at the bottom to take up the slack.
