The summer sun in Florida works like a blow torch on that brightwork that takes so long to redo. The summer downpours seem to find every little crack in the pop top joints. I found an answer that has solved both problems for all that time that the boat sits waiting for my arrival. I had my local canvas man come to the boat and measure for a snap-on cover to fit on the existing snap fittings for the pop top enclosure, including a flap that covers all of the hatch boards. It is made of that last forever Sunbrella (sp?) in white. I have recoated it with a water repellant agent once in the past 3 years. The brightwork is holding up like new and no more leaks (it also cuts way down on the mildew in the cabin). It folds up quickly and easily when I take the boat out, although sometimes I leave it on, like today when I took my grandson fishing. Strange, I was told you can't do that, but fish taste great when caught from a Catalina 25! (I'm probably so foolish because I even have a swing keel and love it). It works great, and even looks attractive. We call it Sweetheart's bonnet. The total cost was $140.00 - - best money that I have spent on the boat. Send questions and comments to: thervey2@aol.com |
