It works! Several years ago I installed a new Sears 110 volt window a.c. in the bottom of the port cockpit locker of my Catalina 25. When hooked up to shore power, it blows it's lovely cool and dry air through a cut out in the plywood divider into the quarter berth, where a small 110 volt fan circulates it through the cabin. With the sun out, it is necessary to close the passageway to the head off to adequately cool. At night without the sun, it will cool the entire boat. The only special arrangement I must make when using it is to open the port locker hatch to provide exhaust and intake air which is helped along with a 13 inch Patton turbo fan. It has consumed very little usable space on board because I never could remember what was stored down there under the extra anchor and rode anyway. I know it may sound crazy to some of you ole salts, but manys the time when I use my boat at it's berth (nice spot) as a cabin on the water, and not too infrequently find myself enjoying several hours reading and napping in the friendly surroundings of the boat that I have sailed several thousands of miles along Florida's fantastic west coast. You gotta remember that I have even been known to take my grandsons fishing off the Sweetheart. This tip submitted by thervey2@aol.com |
