Snickerdoodle - Compass/GPS Bracket
This photo shows the wooden bracket that I made to hold both my compass and my GPS (yes, the GPS is turned off). The bracket fits in the companionway using the hatch board runners. The bracket is primarily oak, with a little varnish to make it look nice. You can see that the compass and GPS are offset to starboard. I tried it before with everything centered and kept kicking the compass whenever I went through the companionway. In a race a while back, it rained "cats & dogs". With my clear plastic hatch cover, I could still read the compass easily although I had to lift the lower corner to really read the numbers on the GPS.
