Cokie Bear - Outboard Bracket Booster

To ease the load of raising and lowering the outboard engine on our C-25, I installed a booster spring on each side of the outboard bracket as shown in the upper drawing. The lower motor transom bolt was replaced with a slightly longer SS bolt to accommodate the spring loops. A small hole was drilled in the upper corner of each SS transom bracket to secure the other end of the spring. Find a coil spring that fits between the mount locations with the bracket in the full upright position. A spring with more coils will stretch better when the bracket is in the full down position which doubles the length of the spring when fully stretched.

The lower drawing is an alternate way using one heavier spring mounted directly to the transom and the small cross bar of the outboard bracket.

Haven Baker recently installed the single spring system on his motor mount. He used a Home Depot Prime Line Products spring #SP9629, 6 1/2" long by 1 1/4" diameter and reported excellent results.
