Lazy Jacks How to construct an inexpensive lazy jack system. by Frank Farmer. March 2006. With additional Pictures by Dave Peters. Materials: 60’ of 3/16” Dacron line, 4 brass snap hooks, 2 ss eye pads, 2 small horn cleats. Attach the eye pads to the bottom of each spreader, about 12” away from the mast. Run the 3/16 thru the port eye, lead it aft to the mainsheet boom attachment, thread it through, and lead it back up to and through the starboard eye pad. Screw the horn cleats to each side of the mast level with the boom. Tie 2 figure 8 loops in each of the boom to spreader lines. Attach the port side 3/16” to the port side cleat and the starboard line to the starboard cleat. With the remaining 3/16 cut two lengths for jack “cradles”, attach a snap hook to each end and snap the lines into the figure 8 loops. Make the lines taut and secure at the cleats.
