I need to replace the port jib cam cleat on my1985 Catalina 25. It appears the nuts are only accessible by climbing in the lazarette and reaching up. I tried, but I can’t get into the lazarette. Has anyone replaced this cam cleat? Any suggestions?

Yep! I checked out the possibility of replacing mine a few years ago. It seems almost impossible to get into that space under the gunwales.
On the starboard side you can climb into the quarterberth and poke around up forward of the cubbyhole space, but I could not find a way to catch the nuts from down there.
On the port side, you have to turn yourself upside down to get into the fender locker, aka dumpster.
The teeth on my cleats got worn out over time, so instead of replacing them, I took a sharp file to them, which improved their bite. I use both the standard cleats and the cam cleats now for the jib sheets, and in stronger breezes I take a wrap or two around the winches.

First visit since selling my boat....
Within the "dumpster", consider removing the wooden trim on which dock lines can be hung and, if need be, removing the wooden bulkhead between the lazerette and the quarter-berth. Both are held in place by screws and are easily removed to give you extra room to maneuver. Working alongside the curved hull, however, is not easy.....Good luck.

Is it possible to just replace the cams/jaws without removing the whole mechanism?

unfortunately, not. The cam cleat has completely come apart. The previous owner gave me a replacement cleat, and now I know why he didn’t replace it.

Do you have an offset or 90° screwdriver? That may be very helpful, especially in these tight quarters
