Clutches failing, starting to need babying to close. Close a little pull the rope, close a little, pull the rope and then close. Otherwise they crush the line and lockup. ( or you basically can't close them.
I'm not happy.. Then again I looked back and realize I'd installed them in dec of 2014 so I guess I shouldn't be that unhappy with 7 years of working.
Anybody got a clutch they prefer?

Ray I had the same problem but with mine I needed to close the handle then open and close again so they would lock on the line. If I didnt the line would slip. I took them all apart and cleaned all the old dry grease and dirt then lightly re-greased them and that did the trick. Working like new now. Over the years they gather alot of fine dirt and dust and the grease just gets hard then the springs and paws just stop sliding and jam up.

Ray just for kicks I would remove the line then open the handle and spray WD40 all over the insides and work the handle open and closed a few dozen times. If that gets it working then the problem is just that it needs servicing.

Spinlock does sell rebuild parts. The cam will wear over time, and may need replacing. I am not sure if any clutches are substantially better than the rest. I have had XAS's on my last couple of boats, and have been happy.
