I'm making my annual pilgrimage from the Bay Area to my mother-in-law's island (Stretch/Grapeview)in South Puget Sound in "Close Quarters" (C250WB #265). This year we would like to cruise the San Juan's. What would be the preferred launch point? Anacortes, Bellingham, or ? Suggested destinations?

I launched in Bellingham because they have a 4-lane launch ramp and you can leave your rig in the parking lot for several days, just check with the Harbor Master for a free permit. There is a ships chandlery across the street from the parking lot and also a West Marine a couple miles away, not far from the grocery store and motels.

Anacortes is a nice old fishing town but you have to sling the boat in.

What part of the Bay Area are you in?

Anacortes has a lift so you do not have to put your trailer in the water and a good place to rigg your boat.
West Marine
Safeway
Walgreens
all within a block.
Very clean laundry, restrooms and showers.....5 each spaced around the marina.
Parking for car and trailer with security 7.50 week.
THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS RIGHT ON THE WHARF.
Also best angle to wind to sail back.
Spent a month there last year.

I was in Anacortes last week looking for a house. Lots of $$$$$. Anyway. If you are there, don't miss the Rock fish brewpub. They have an amazing wood-fired pizza. And the beer is tasty as well.

cap sante, anacortes. nice people. very helpful. 4th put in there. enroute stops: friday harbor, roche harbor (swimming pool). if you cross to the gulf islands, bedwell, ganges, telegraph harbour, all have fuel, laundry showers, water and ecodumps.
