I've seen these mentioned here a couple of times but nothing much shows up in search. What is the general concensus on this company? Are they ok to deal with? They don't want to take credit cards because of the extra expense, which I can understand, but sending a check off for this amount of money to an unknown raises a red flag for me.
I just bought and installed them. The "company" is a nice guy that lives somewhere in the San Juans. Forget his name, but he was friendly and shipped exactly what he said he would when he said he would. The kit itself was also very good. It included pre drilled windows, starboard interior trim (undrilled), a centering & depth controlled drill bit, and enough screws and butyl tape to complete the job. Once the boat was cleaned and ready all the windows went in pretty fast. Maybe an hour for the first one then about 30 minutes a window after that. We finished up in the dark and I was putting in the last screws when heavy rains started. Rained pretty good for a few days after that, and for the first time in memory the boat did not leak! The interior trim took longer because you need to measure and drill the holes. The Admiral is touchy about things lining up, so I had to measure 6 times and drill once on all the holes. Took me about a day to install the interior trim, but that included some nap time Kit was expensive, but complete. I suspect most of the money is in the starboard trim. The admiral and crew are all very happy with the results. - New window Kit: $700 Flowers to the wife because you spent another $700 on the boat: $60 A bone dry boat with no silicone/ duct tape/ adhesive/ caulk on the windows: Priceless
I just got the new type windows from them and they were very helpful. The only issue was the timing. To their defense they had never done C25 (the new windows) and had no template. They did give me a discount for sending one side of mine so they could get the template into the computer. This means they are willing to think outside the box so everybody benefits. I did this over the holidays so things got delayed. I did tell them I wasn't in a hurry and they got them to me just under the wire for my splash time. I was concerned but they came through. They all were very friendly and helpful. There was a time when they didn't respond but they had a computer crash or something and they still managed to deliver by my required date.
I would use them again. I was concerned because I did something I usually never do: I sent them the full amount up front. I normally don't do that the first time dealing with a company.
Appreciate the confidence building. Seems their product is the best solution for my port light problem so I'm going with it. I didn't like what I saw in the Beckson line. I did like the Lewmar line, but because my front portlight is curved, those are out of the question as they require flatness of 1mm on the mounting surface.
For what it is worth I taked to Mike on Wednesday April 6th about replacements for my Crown 34. For four windows I was quoted in the range of $600. Not bad for a one-ff design. They are located on Orcas Island and we are in Sidney BC so I might just go and pick them up to save the time & dollars for shipping.
