Gary, when I said it would ruin the boat owner's day, I meant that it would certainly ruin my whole day (at least) if my boat fell on somebody and squashed them like a bug--regardless of whose "fault" it was.
At a professional safety seminar mandated by my business insurance carrier we were told that you can get away with doing dangerous things quite a few times before disaster bites you on the francis. The statistics stated were that for approximately every 300 dangerous acts, one serious accident or fatality will occur.
