you are correct. You need to remove the rear bulkhead unless you have very long arms. I never replaced my rear bulkhead. There is lots of storage for very light things such as extra lifejackets. I always carry around 15 or so.

This was the best thing I have ever done for any boat I have own. I would recomend this to anyone. I have a ST1000 Plus. It hooks up to my GPS. Its the best helmsmen I have ever had on my boat!!!

I'm not very familiar with the layout of the C250, but I'm curious why you need to remove a bulkhead. Is it to get electricity hookup for the tillerpilot?

Richard,

Just much easier to work on things back there if you remove the bulkhead. Easy to take out and put back in.

Bill,

Where do you tie up, or do you trailer? I'm at Casa Rio near Mayo off the West and Rhode Rivers.

I thought I'd post back and let you know I got the ST2000 istalled and trailered my boat to Amelia Island, Florida and went sailing in all kinds of conditions for a week. The autopilot was fabulous in all conditions, even sailing with the wind with two - four foot seas and gusts 20-30 knots. When it was really blowing I was able to close the boat up and sit on the steps and control with the remote control.

John, sounds like a successful installation and a great week of sailing!
Why did you choose the ST2000 over the ST1000? I've been considering these two and it seems like the big difference is the speed lock-to-lock.
Any chance of showing us a picture of how/where you mounted it?

Shawn,

I'm at the Washington Sailing Marina. It is just south of Ronald Reagan National Airport on the Potomac River.

Richard,

There is approximately 18 inches between the transom and the aft bulkhead on the 250. The battery is located in this space (at least in 2002 and prior models.) It is far easier to snake speaker or other wires throught this area if you remove the bulkhead.

Good question Dave, I was hoping John would see your post and reply. Anyone else install a tillerpilot? Which model, any photo of finished job? Tips on instalation? Thanks.
