I just bought a set of used brass lights. They were badly tarnished and the laquer finish on them was in bad shaped. I tried assorted strippers/ Barkeeper's Friend, acetone, ect. In the end it's steel wool and elbow grease that works. Question is, should I re-spray them to prevent future tarnish? Any other brass polishing tips would be welcome.

I have sprayed brass with a clear acrylic, and it held up well in the home environment. It would probably do pretty well on the boat, too.

For polishing brass, I like the product Brite Boy with bronze wool.

I recall someone suggested using a rotory tool (e.g. Dremel) with the polishing tip (white, felt-like piece) with a polishing product, like Brite Boy.
