Anyone want to try sailing to the Coronado Ferry Landing Sunday?

I am thinking of this, what do you think?

Sunday - sail to SD Bay Ferry landing for lunch, also sail out and drop our race bouy for a 1 mile course (I thought it was going to be 2 miles in each direction so slight change of plans...)

Sunday night - spend the night on board

Monday morning - crew arrives and ready to sail by 10:30

Be at the red bouy before 11. Sail the race, go back and get the bouy. Catch a few fish.

Dock party starts around 2 PM. Barbeque, BYOB. Many of our L dock friends will be there.

Who is coming??

BTW

Guess who showed up to L dock yesterday? Sel and Kobie. I spent 2 hours hearing San Diego - Hawaii sea stories. He sold the boat in Honolulu for $8K in only a couple of days. Sel (I think I called him Sal in the past), said he'll come to the dock party.

Jim,
We're coming over but our plans are to pull the boat out on Monday so we would be limited to the Sunday activities. We will be around on Saturday too.

Our trip to B.E.E.R. is coming up so need to load up the boat, bring it home, and get ready.
I'm thinking I'll want to pull the boat early Monday as I expect that the ramps will be really crowded later in the day. Good plan?

On a separate note last time we were over we got to spend time working on sail trim. I think you had it right, I was not sheeting in enough. I've always stayed well away from backwinding the main, but our practice showed that sheeting in tight and slightly backwinding was faster. Be interesting to see if I can keep up better.

I imagine the ramps will be most busy early Monday (fishermen), quiet mid day, and busy again in the afternoon.

I'll bet the Sea World ramp is quiet all the time (compared to Dana Landing)

We'll be there on Monday to race for sure.

Possibly Sunday also.

I am planning on getting down this Thursday for an evening sail.

Daniel is coming home for the weekend so will have to plan around what he wants to do. I want to sail as much as possible.

All my commitments to school are now finished.....

Hey Gary, how did the Solar Boat race come out? Why not make a thread about that?

My life has gotten a lot less hectic with the Solar Cup over (last Sunday night....I spent Thursday evening after working all day through Sunday evening out at Lake Skinner with the "team" so am still a bit groggy) so I have actual time to sneak onto the C25/C250 website and see what's happening!!!

Jim, I will put some pics for the solar boat thing on maybe tonight. I guess I have to send them to that picture site first, though. Not enough time to do it right now. Got some work to take care of as usual.

How many boats are going to be racing? With Doug and Mo pulling their boat out on Monday morning, wouldn't it be a good idea to move our race to, say, Saturday, or Sunday when they are around? So we could include them also? What do you think, Doug/Mo?

happy to move the race to Sunday. I will not be able to attend Saturday. The kids marching band is in our local parade. I'll be working on the dinghy afterwards.

Whatever works for youse guys is fine with us...

If you want to race on Sunday, we can participate. It will give me a chance to try my new motor boost technique... I mean sail trim technique.

Plus if you don't like the results of the race you can run it again on Monday.

We're up for whatever. A sail to SD bay, racing, floating, dock partying, all works for us. Just at some point I need to get the boat on the trailer.
If the big ramp over by Sea World is not typically crowded it would ease some concerns. As I recall it has a floating pier that would make loading easier too.

Yes, the Sea World ramp has a floating dock and is not nearly as crowded.

I'll be there both days. Karen and the kids will be coming down Monday to sail and have a barbeque.

I'll be happy to assist Doug and Mo loading and hauling out.

Jim, I won't be down Thursday (today) to sail after all. Michelle has a band concert I must attend which takes precedence over my wanting to sail. Maybe I will come down Friday instead....yes, that sounds good.
Last performance by my daughter on clarinet in high school and she has a big solo. I just let my need to sail interfere with my memory of what was happening today. Should have sailed yesterday...

See you all Sunday for sure.
Gary

If you guys can't decide, there's always the stringline at the Isthmus. It's not THAT far . I'm heading out tonight. Regardless of where you guys go, have a great holiday weekend!

Richard, summer vacation is almost here for this teacher. I might have to work out the logistics to take you up on that string line sometime at the Isthmus this summer. Two days to get there going up the coast. Let me know when you plan to go next. School is out Friday, June 11.

(2) The Baumgart family is coming Monday to sail and barbeque
(3) Cavins are pulling their boat out Monday around noon

Lets try to take it all from here.

A guy in an old Cal moored next to us was from San Diego. He said lots of folks from there tend to leave in the evening so they can make it overnight in one shot (less headwinds). He said it took him 14 hours with his old, small Evinrude as propulsion.

I think we will be heading back for Father's Day weekend, then the Rendezvous after that.

A sidenote -- I was surprised that this was the first holiday weekend in some time that they never got completely sold out of moorings at the Isthmus and the ancorage areas were less than the usually crazy they are during holidays. I don't know if it was just a fluke, but some suggested that the high price of gas kept some from coming over in their large powerboats.

My wife and I left Oceanside with another couple on their C25 a few years ago at midnight, motoring, and arrived at the Isthmus around 11:30am so have had "one" experience doing the overnight trip. Not too enamored with the idea myself since my wife doesn't like the idea at all. So will have to make other plans.

One good reason we might like gas prices going up is empty moorings at the Isthmus.....

Hope we can connect this summer sometime.
