Now that I have auxillary power again I was able to make it out to the Wednesday Beer Can Race at G-13 on the St. J. I will count that as my very first official-unofficial race.
I was soloing and the winds were east to southeasterly and moderate enough for me to log 6.1 knots. Averaged 5.8 for the first part. I actually didn't make it for the start as it takes me forty minutes to get to the marina after work. But I shoved off a quickly as possible and headed for the group of seven which were going south and caught them at marker 15. We then went on to marker 17 and rounded back. The sun was going down fast so half way back to 15 I sheeted her in tight and made for Amity again.
The sunset was beautiful and I was glad to finally be back doing what I love to do!
O'kay what is happening at the races. I have been stuck in my slip for the last two weeks with low water and can't get over the sandbar in front of my dock. Old Penny had no trouble with her 34" draft, but this extra 8" on the new boat is killing me. Sure hope we get a Northeaster or some rain soon to put some water back in the lake. These should give you an idea. Low tide on the picture dates is the same now. The finger dock is usually at the mide window point at low tide. Right now it is above the top of the boat deck.
