For those of you who have followed the discussions about the Edson push-pull steering gear that came with out boats, I'd like to put in my two cents about the conversion system that Arlyn designed. This winter I decided to replace the original Edson steering system, before I had troubles with it. After a bit of research, I decided to use the system designed by Arlyn. The kit he supplies is complete, well documented and easy to install.
I finally got the boat launched this past week and got to try the new steering this Saturday. We had good wind (gusts to 18-20). The steering system was extremely responsive. It felt like power steering - no muscle required. Even the Admiral was able to handle the helm. For those who have been delaying the conversion, I highly recommend the effort and minimal expense. It's the best improvement I've done to date. And I'm not being paid by Arlyn to say this
