Need some advice on attaching whisker pole to mast. Pros/cons for using fixed bail (padeye) or adjustable bail on track. Also, where is the best location and size of fitting. I have a 135% genoa on a CDI furler. I have no plans to add a spinnaker.

I use a screwed on plastic eye attachement, West Marine p1073-item111567, $6.99 works good. (two actually, one for the 110, one for the drifter) With a 135 you might go a little heavier and use one of the SS ones. Without a spinnaker, IMHO a track is a waste of money. On a calm day pole out the jib, and put the pole about horizontal....mark the spot, drill, screw. (put some goop on the screw, SS and Aluminum tend to corrode together, goop helps).

Oscar,

Thanks. Exactly what I needed to know. Think I will install a ss ring and attach with ss rivits. I do not plan on using a spinnaker - if I go to another sail, it will be an asymetrical type.

Thanks again.

You might consider drilling and tapping for machine screws instead of using ss rivits. A drop of lock-tight will keep the machine screws from backing out - but you might need to replace the ring if it's damaged. Much easier to unscrew the machine screws than to drill out the ss rivits.

My guess would be a couple of #8x32 screws a half inch long would do the trick nicely.

Me I use coarse thread ss screws, with a drop of silicone goop....maybe it was my tap set, but I found it real easy to goober up the soft thin aluminum, not much thickness, not many threads.

You could use self tapping screws too Oscar. But the #8x32 screw will give superior holding power under most conditions. The mast extrusion should be thick enough to give you plenty of material to work with.
