From the time I bought my C250 WB, the aft hatch to the battery compartment didn't fit right and appeared to have been broken. I just took it off instead of futzing with it -- I never could figure out exactly how it was supposed to sit. Anyone else had problems with this hatch and done anything to improve how it fits? Details appreciated.
Actually I just finished making a new one. Wanting to get away from the Clorox Bottle syndrome I used the old one for a pattern and put a natural finish on a new 1/2" Sandply one. There are two wood cleats on the back side of the hatch cover. Mine are broken also, but the aft berth cushion holds it in place. Something else on my "to do" list is move those batteries so I can better utilize that space. I also made a removable shelf for the V-berth and a new companion way hatch with a smoked plexiglass port'l so I can see aft when the cabin is closed up.
Almost looks like teak, huh? Notice the motor is conspicuous by it's absence. I am also in the process of making a new natural finish dinette table and the smoked plexiglass around the galley is coming off too. That's a C-25 in the next slip. It is kept clean but I never see it go out.
The cover to the battery is a hassell for sure if you have bedding and need access to check on battery, steering etc. It could certainly be improved, perhaps a sliding door/hatch might work, & Ben..really like the Companion way improvement! Steve
