The new TellTale is posted with the election ballot. Please cast your vote(s) by September 30th.
Only members of the Association are allowed to vote on the officers and have access to the TellTale newsletters. If you are a member you should have either gotten an email from me today or a letter in the mail. If you did not get either and you are a member Please! send me your name and a correct email address. I had about 50 emails kick back because of bad addresses today. You will need the new User Name and Password to access the TellTale.

quote:
Why not elect officers at the nationals as part of the event. We can nominate for 30 days prior, vote the week before in abstentia and during the event. We could count and annoint at the event. I am new to this goup but it seems it is large enough to have some better proceedures.

Answer:
Good question. At one time, the elections did take place at the Nationals. But, doing so was not inclusive of a changing membership brought about by the web site. The Nationals traditionally draw only a small percentage of the membership... and that percentage is a special interest group. The association experienced some hard times as a result.
Our membership is inclusive of racers, day sailors, cruisers, family sailors, sailboat enthusiast and combinations of those. The Nationals should not have general membership political activity as part of is structure.
This problem is not the result of inadequate procedures, but rather circumstances. I've outlined my thoughts on those in the Membership response forum.
This is very amusing, kind of like the board of directors of a for profit corporation that I'm on, but without the millions involved, and no backstabbing lawsuiting scheming obfiscating subterfuge........(go ahead get out the dictionary....that's good for you )
A few points:
*I read between the lines that there are some skeletons in the closet. Not being party to the gory details gives me an excuse to be insensitive to these issues. Or, if you will, to keep my eye on the big picture. Fresh blood has that beneficial effect on any organization.
*As someone who gives many volunteer hours of work every year, I thank and appreciate those who stepped up to the plate. Thank you again.
*If procedures were not completely followed, we should learn and improve. That said, it does not seem there is anyone else banging on the door, biting at the bit with foaming lips, so it seems there was no real harm done.
*Today I voted for those who are on the list. I urge everyone to do the same. A show of unity and support is very encouraging to those who are willing to do the work.
*I pledge that one of these years I will make the time to serve. (Or buy a bigger boat Not sure what the odds here are with two kids that are slurping up tuition dollars like it's going out of style, and will be for the next two decades)
Now I'm going back outside to work on the Garage Mahal (450 concrete block in........ 800 to go.....)
This raises difficult questions, especially in view of the fact that we're all friends here, but with apologies to anyone who might be offended, I think we should proceed with the election. It might be that the rules were not strictly followed, but it also sounds like it was caused by the fact that the Tell Tale wasn't working, so that strict compliance was impossible. When strict compliance with rules of this sort is impossible, you have no choice but to figure out some other way to proceed in a way that accomplishes the basic objectives of the rule. The rule was intended to let people know of the upcoming elections and give a chance for people to make nominations. The notice that was posted in the forum achieved the spirit and intent of the rule, and, unless I am mistaken, anyone who has expressed an interest in serving as an office holder actually participated in that discussion, so they had a chance to express their interest and to submit themselves for nomination.
I really hate the fact that this problem has arisen, and that John G., of all people, is upset by it. One of the most visible activities of the association is the publication of the C-25/250 section of the Mainsheet, and John has worked hard at it and made sure that everyone submitted their copy on time, and that our part of the magazine had a variety of interesting articles. I would be honored to nominate John in next year's election for any office in which he is interested.
