[quote] Boat ready to sail right now (was sailed last weekend) Am selling boat to purchase a J/24. I love this boat, sad to see it go.
You may consider a Merit 25. It has essentially the same numbers as the Js and is a thousand times more comfortable. Most J24 fleets will allow a Merit to sail with them as a one design member. They regret it once you learn to sail the boat and kick their butts. The mains on the two boats are identical but the rig is a shorter fractional on the J headsail. The Merit has a trailerable rig that allows all shrouds to be left at tension when raising and lowering the mast. There is a cam shaped mast foot that brings everything to tension as the mast raises. Good luck, Js and their ilk are beautiful examples of ship design. One other thing, beware of balsa rot on the J hulls, a survey is money well spent.
Not a bad choice, Mike... If you want to race one-design, and you have a good J-24 fleet locally, that's the way to go. Also, it's a boat you can always sell. Around here, no self-respecting J-24 fleet would allow a Merit or anything else in their races. One-design is one-design, period.

Mike, You mentioned that your original sails were in good shape. I might be interested in buying your new sails.

I'm not trying too hard to sell her, but yes, she's still for sale. I bought the J/24 even though I still haven't sold the C-25. But do I really need two boats??
Hey Mike, I printed out your pics and discussions about your boat and gave it to Dwight Guinn, one of the folks who sailed with me in the keys, and he really likes my boat (same as yours) He is an accomplished C22 racer, and a member of my sailing club. He may have another friend of ours, Terry Adams, who is doing some work in Charleston contact you to look at the boat. If this deal comes together, that will make two folks I have helped get an 89 wing (three if you include me) Maybe I should quit anesthesia and become a broker.
Frank: Hey you are the man! Watch out for this guy, he set me up with my 89 wing and I am very grateful. I will be ther first to thank you for all of the leads of great boats. Bruce Ebling 89 WK "Selah"
She is still for sale, although I'm still using her when i'm in town. I've done a lot of cleaning up and teak work and maintaining. She's looking beautiful!
Hi Mike, I was amazed that you still haven't sold your beautiful boat. It seems to me that if someone wanted to do a swing to wing conversion they would be better off to sell their swing, and buy your wing. There is no way that a retrofit would be as structurally sound as a purpose built wing. Not to mention a flat floor, window up front, self tailing winches.
How am I doing, do you think I could work as a broker?
Hey Frank, You said your friend in the keys races C-22's, How about trying a C-22 to see if your Broker Buisness is ready to expand? (See 1985 C-22 in this forum) Maybe this could work out for all of us who have listed something here, what are your fee's? Take care and Happy Sailing Jim
Hey Jim, I'm not really a broker, I have just helped friends find sailboats, usually an 89 wing keel Catalina 25.
Mike, That's a really great deal on your boat. Maybe I should start collecting 89 wings for investment purposes. That is such a good deal, that anyone considering the conversion of their boat from a swing to a wing could probably save a bunch of bucks and hassle by buying yours, and then selling theirs. makes sense to me. Good luck Mike
Thanks, I have her priced to try and sell quickly. I really need to get rid of her as I'm traveling for work way to much and living on the west coast part-time as well. I pains me to get rid of her though... she's been so good to me. <tear> lol
