We were in Charlevoix, Michigan for the past week. There were many motorboats with multiple outboards. The largest combination, I saw was 4 x 600hp. Anyhow, I was feeling a bit inadequate, so needed to do something about it to fit in.
You mean "rocket launchers." The most hp I've seen around here was three 600s (V-10s where only the lower units turn--the power heads stay in a fixed position). Makes my single 225 look about like the H-8 I had on my C-25.
I wanna see some Ferrari V-12s lined up in bright red casings (to match the boat, of course)!

The Mercury 600R is a 7.6L (464 cu.in.), 4-cam, naturally aspirated 600 HP V-12 that burns approx. 50/gph at full throttle and 18/gph at 3,500 RPM cruise setting.
woah--I forgot it was a 12... Basically two Yammie 300 V6 blocks bolted together--similar fuel burn I suspect. Wait--what forum is this?!?

Ya--let's try a Merc 600 on a Mac 26! (...just 12 times the spec.) Probably do a wheely and flip over backwards!

The owner of that 50' catamaran I used to crew, put a 15 hp merc on the 9'inflatable. Every time I opened the throttle I thought the bow was coming over my head...

A friend of mine actually did that. He suddenly opened the throttle on his inflatable and a gust of wind lifted the bow and blew it over backwards, and upside down. He actually called me on his cellphone while he was treading water and asked me to come out of the marina on my boat and get him. Unfortunately, I was 40 miles away in my car at the time. Luckily, someone else came out of the marina and "saved" him.

In billiards the old saying was "speed kills" so is the case with outboards on dinghies. Meanwhile controlling a sailboat under any power requires skill. I like skill!!
